Pet/Animal Policy

  • All pets are carried FREE of charge on our buses and trains.
  • On trains, all animals must be carried in their appropriate pet cage, with the exception of assistance animals which must be kept on a leash.
  • On buses small dogs capable of being carried on a passenger’s knee will be permitted, provided they are clean and do not prove to be a nuisance or cause inconvenience to other passengers. Dogs accompanying blind persons and assistance animals must be kept on a leash.
  • Cages and/or assistance animals are not permitted to occupy a seat.

Bicycle Policy

  • All bicycles (subject to the conditions below) will be carried FREE of charge on Ulsterbus and NIRailways.
  • Bicycles are not permitted on any Metro service.
  • Bicycles may only be carried on a bus if the bus has a boot and space is available.
  • Bicycles will not be permitted on trains prior to 0930 hours Monday to Friday.
  • On trains, up to 4 full sized bicycles can be carried at any one time within the designated bicycle area. Space will be allocated on a first come first served basis, in the designated area, and at the discretion of the Conductor. There will be NO bicycle reservation system on buses and trains.
  • There are NO travel restrictions nor limit to the number of folding bicycles we can carry, provided they are completely folded down.
  • Tandems, tricycles, motorcycles, mopeds, motorised cycles and scooters are not permitted on any buses or trains.
  • Bicycles will not be carried during periods of bus substitution for rail services.
  • Bicycle parking shelters are available at many main stations throughout the network.

Prams

  • Children’s buggies/prams are carried free of charge on buses and trains.
  • Dedicated pram spaces on buses should be used where available or otherwise folded.

No Smoking Policy

  • Smoking is not permitted in any Ulsterbus or NIRailways building, platform or on board any bus or train.

Trespass Policy

  • No loitering or trespassing on NIRailways property.
  • Maximum penalty £1000.

Penalty Fares Policy - NIRailways

  • Passengers travelling without a valid ticket and who have had the opportunity to purchase one will be issued with a penalty fare.
  • The Penalty Fare for NOT having a valid ticket will be £10 plus the full single fare for the journey made. Alternatively offenders may be prosecuted resulting in a criminal conviction.

No Alcohol Policy

  • Passengers are not permitted to consume alcohol on rail or bus services within Northern Ireland, except when purchased from the bar onboard the Enterprise service.

CCTV

  • CCTV cameras are installed on C3k trains, buses and at selected locations. Images are recorded and monitored for your safety and to help prevent crime.

Unaccompanied children

  • Children under 12 years of age will not be carried except when they are accompanied by a responsible person aged 16 years or over on cross border, bus and rail services.
