GRASP (Greenisland Railway Adoption Scheme Project) works in partnership with Translink to aim to transform the lives of young people in Greenisland through increasing physical, emotional and spiritual health, leading to maturity and personal growth and promoting positive relationships within the community.
The scheme also aims to make Greenisland Railway Station a central part of the community through long term activities such as sport and music and introducing gardening projects at the Railway Station.
The scheme which secured funding for 3 years from Children in Need aims to enrich the lives of young people.
Translink’s Larne Line Manager Frank Moore says, ‘We are delighted to be working with GRASP on this excellent cross community project and I would like to commend and congratulate them in bringing it to fruition. We are committed to nurturing and supporting the local community and in particular our young people and look forward to continuing our work with them in order to make a positive impact within the area.’
Rachael Kirker & Alan Wright (Project workers - GRASP) say, ‘This began with a vision to bring God’s word to young people by husband and wife team Sam & Isy Steele who are members of the Church of Ireland in Greenisland. We are excited about the far-reaching potential this project has to help young people, and they are keen to establish good working relationships with all members of the community. The local churches are already ‘on board’ to lend their support, and we are keen to hear from anyone within the wider community who has an interest in this project. ‘ Rachel and Alan concluded.
