Energy Management

Translink is committed to monitoring and reporting upon an annual facilities energy and water spend which for the financial year 2006/7 was around £2 million. Translink has recently provided a dedicated resource for energy management. Information on energy consumption is distributed through a variety of methods.

Our existing energy purchasing strategy means the electricity supplied is generated by a mix of on shore wind turbines and fossil fuel fired power stations. The ‘green’ supplies are considered to produce no CO2 emissions. This approach has enabled us to exceed our agreed target of purchasing a minimum of 20% of total electricity supplies through ‘green’ sources since 2003.

Electricity and fossil fuel supplies are negotiated using a competitive tender process by the purchasing team. Translink fossil fuel and electricity contracts are fixed for a specified period.

In addition to ‘green’ electricity supplies, we are also lowering CO2 emissions through a number of other activities.
