Donaghadee to benefit from enhanced Ulsterbus town services

11th June 2007:

Passengers in the Donaghadee area will soon benefit from enhanced Ulsterbus town services as part of the ongoing Area Reviews which aim to improve local Ulsterbus services across Northern Ireland.

On Monday 2nd July services are set to be extended to cover more of the residential areas in Donaghadee including Cypress and Morey.  The initial pilot service 303A currently operating to Bangor serving Bloomfield Shopping Centre will be enhanced to offer five services, offering over 200 additional seats every day Monday to Friday.

Local Ulsterbus District Manager, Richard Hudson explained, “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers in the Donaghadee area these new improved services and are confident that they will be welcomed by the local community.  The developments are designed to enhance and improve public transport attractiveness by offering easy to use, accessible services which are more suited to our passengers needs and include additional services to Bangor serving Bloomfield Shopping Centre, and Bangor Bus and Rail Centre providing improved connections with other Ulsterbus and Rail Services.

“Low floor vehicles will be used on all town services enabling us to improve accessibility for parents with small children as well as those with mobility issues. In addition improved passenger information will include simple, easy to use timetables with colour-coded route maps and modern new bus stop infrastructure.”

Changes to Ulsterbus services in the Donaghadee area are part of a wider Strategic Review to deliver passenger growth in line with the Regional Transportation Strategy targets.  Previous reviews across Northern Ireland have included Coleraine, Enniskillen and ‘Ulsterbus Foyle’ which experienced 10%, 17% and 21% growth respectively and which have been received with enthusiasm by passengers in their local areas.

This success has been reflected across the Translink business with overall bus and rail passenger journeys increasing by an impressive 1.5million to 76 million over the last year; this equates to taking around 1 million cars off the road and is clearly a vote of confidence in public transport.

New timetables for Donaghadee Town services are now available from Bangor or Newtownards Buscentres or by contacting the call centre on 028 90 66 66 30 or visiting www.translink.co.uk
