For Your Safety - The Level Crossing at Whitehead Railway Station
At NI Railways we take your safety very seriously. That means making sure you know why you should never take risks when crossing the railway line.
Whitehead Railway station has a pedestrian footpath level crossing over the Larne railway line. Forgetting or disregarding the warning features at this crossing can put you closer than you realise to a serious accident – or even endangering your life.
The warning features at the level crossing are for your protection.
With upgrades to this line, both railway platforms are in full operational use and trains are often travelling at speeds of up to 70 mph. An approaching train can’t always be heard as the sound can be muffled by background noise.
Which means, if you hear a train it is VERY CLOSE. So please take great care when using this footpath crossing.
Safety warning features in place include:
At all times stay alert and ALWAYS:
If NIR identifies anyone – either in person or via CCTV – causing a risk to themselves or others, they will be prosecuted. Have a look at our record of prosecutions for 2007 so far...>>
