Translink Fares Revision, but Still Great Value Deals

- Metro weekly tickets held at £14.50
- Ulsterbus day tickets held at £1.70
- Max fare reduced
- 1/3rd Off off-peak rail returns retained
Due to the continued increase in the cost of fuel, fares on Translink bus and rail services will rise by 5% from Monday 25th August 2008.
Ciarán Rogan of Translink explained,” We have worked very hard to keep fares as low as possible but our fuel bill will be £9million higher this year than last and unfortunately we have no option but to raise fares.
“I am confident that bus and rail travel is still by far the best value choice - particularly in the current economic climate as we all face large price hikes in petrol and diesel and other energy bills.
“Customers can continue to save money by using Smartlink fares and other multi-journey bus and rail tickets and should look out for our regular promotions to get the best savings. For Metro our weekly travel card is held at just £14.50, giving unlimited travel for much less than the cost of a tank of fuel and Ulsterbus day tickets have been held at £1.70. I would also urge those eligible for Smartpass concession cards to get the most use out of them.

On average Metro will increase by 6.4%, Ulsterbus by 5% and N I Railways by 4.2%.
Metro
Increase cash fares by 10p
- £1.10 to £1.20
- £1.40 to £1.50
- £1.70 to £1.80
Increase Smartlink MJ tickets by 10p.
- Inner Zone - £0.80 to £0.90
- City Zone - £1.00 to £1.10
- Extended Zone - £1.25 to £1.35
Savings per journey by using Smartlink MJ tickets range from 25% to 26.6%.
Day Ticket peak held at £3.50.
Day Ticket off-peak increased by 20p to £2.70.
Weekly Travel Card held at £14.50.
Monthly Travel Card increased by 3.6% to £57.00.
Average Fares Increase = 6.4% (Metro fares were increased on 31st March by an average of 3.1%. Total increase of the two revisions = 9.5%).
ULSTERBUS
Town/City Day Ticket held at £1.70.
Maximum single fare reduced from £10.50 to £10.00.
Most Cross Border bus service fares will be increased by around 4%.
Average fares increase is 5%. (Ulsterbus fares were increased on 31st March by an average of 4%. Total increase of the two revisions = 9.0%).
NI Railways
Central Zone adult fare increased from £1.10 to £1.20.
Maximum single fare reduced from £10.50 to £10.00.
Single fares increased by an average of 5%.
Return, Weekly and Monthly fares increased by an average of 4%.
1/3rd Off off-peak returns will be retained.
Free weekend travel facility on monthly tickets to be valid for all tickets over £70.00.
Average increase is 4.25%. (NI Railways fares were increased on 31st March by an average of 4.9%. Total increase of the two revisions = 9.15%).
Other Fares
Airport Express 300
Single fare to be increased from £6.00 to £7.00. Return fare to be increased to £10.00 from £9.00. 10 journey Smartlink fare to be increased to £45.00 from £40.00.
Airport Express 600
Single fare to be increased to £1.50 from £1.40.
Sprucefield Park & Ride
- Single: to increase by 10p to £2.90
- Return: to increase by 20p to £5.20
- 10 journey Smartlink: to increase from £20.00 to £21.00
Freedom of Northern Ireland Tickets
- 1 Day: to remain at £15.00
- 3 out of 8 Days: to remain at £36.00
- 7 Days: to increase from £50.00 to £53.00
