Translink’s Invitation to tender for new train order

The 20 trains for Northern Ireland Railways moved another step closer as Translink released the invitation to tender documentation.
Mal McGreevy explained “We continue to move forwards in this project to ensure we deliver each milestone on time. Investment has clearly paid off as we continue to see more and more people use the train as the best option.”
“Considerable effort has been put into the preliminary design phase of these new trains following public consultation and of course we have been able to build on our experience gained with the CAF Class 3000 trains.”
“This is a rigorous comprehensive tendering process. Each aspect of the tender submissions will be fully assessed and evaluated to ensure the Northern Ireland public gets the best option and the best value for money. We plan to sign contracts with the successful supplier in March 2009. “
“These new trains will provide a further boost for our customers particularly those on the Larne line and we are looking forward to delivery of the first train in 2011.”
